Choose your path: where to start in ecommerce
You do not need to read everything.
Answer three questions and we will show you the lessons, videos and next step that fit where you are today.
Nothing you choose here leaves your browser.
Where you start with ecommerce depends on three things: whether you are selling yet, which channel you are on or considering and which job you need help with first. New sellers start with unit economics and paperwork. Growing sellers start with stock, fees and account health. Brands past $1M start with systems and team.
Why three questions?
Because most advice online is written for one kind of seller. A founder with a product and no account needs different lessons from a brand doing $3M a year on Amazon that wants to add Walmart. Three answers are enough to point you to the right first lesson, and you can change them at any time.
Where should you start with ecommerce if you are not sure which channel?
Choose "More than one, or not sure yet". Your path starts with ecommerce business models compared and the unit economics lesson, because the right first channel is usually the one where your product's numbers and paperwork fit most cleanly. If you want a written answer for your product, the free Launch Readiness Check prices it on Amazon, Walmart and Shopify after every fee.
What does each stage really come down to?
One number and one habit per stage. The lessons go deeper, but if you only remember this table, you will avoid the most expensive mistakes we see.
| Stage | The number to know | The habit that protects it | What usually goes wrong |
|---|---|---|---|
| Exploring | Contribution per unit after every platform fee, at your planned price and 10% lower | Price a product before you buy it | Choosing a product on demand alone, then finding fees take the margin |
| Launching | Days from application to first live listing, and the cash you need to get there | Paperwork that matches on every document; trademark filed first | Stalled verification, unlabeled first shipments, launch ads with no budget limit |
| Selling, under $1M | Days of stock cover per SKU, and the account health metrics | A reorder rule and a daily health check | Stockouts on the best seller, then a performance warning nobody saw |
| $1M or more | Contribution margin by SKU and channel, every week | A fixed weekly review with named owners | The founder as the operations system, and margin lost to fees nobody tracks |
Each channel has a worked example for its number: Amazon module 02 for price and fees, Amazon module 06 for stock cover and Walmart module 06 for performance standards.
Do you help me choose a product?
Choosing what to sell stays your decision. In a free session or a Launch Readiness Check we tell you plainly whether a product's numbers work on each channel once you have one. If you want a team to research products and find and vet suppliers with you, that is Full Relay, our managed store service; you still approve every product and supplier, and you pay suppliers directly. We do not sell product lists.

You can reach an ops lead directly, and nothing you typed is lost.
Is this a quiz or a sign-up?
Neither. It is three questions that point you to the right free lessons. Your answers stay in your browser, and we never ask for your email here.
Can I change my answers later?
Yes. Use "Start over", or change any answer and the result updates. If you saved the path to "Your progress", saving again replaces it.
What if none of the options fit me?
Pick the closest stage and "More than one, or not sure yet". Or book a free session with an ops lead and ask directly: 30 minutes with a real person, a reply within one business hour and no pitch deck.
Is Amazon, Walmart or Shopify easier for beginners?
None is easy, and each is hard in a different way. Amazon has the most rules and the most competition. Walmart's application is stricter and asks for a business tax ID. Shopify is simple to open, but you bring every visitor yourself. The All paths table shows the start lesson for each.
I already sell on one channel. Should I add another?
Only once the first one runs on a weekly schedule: stock counted in one place, margin known per product and account health checked every business day. Choose "Adding a sales channel" as your topic to see what to fix first.
Does the result change if I am above $1M a year?
Yes. Brands at $1M or more get the Beyond $1M lessons and systems topics, and the next step is a free Profit Leak Scan: a read-only review of where margin is leaking, delivered within 48 hours of working access.
