Quick answer
Amazon FBA fees in 2026 changed four times. On Jan 15, 2026, fulfillment fees rose by an average of $0.08 a unit. A 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge followed on Apr 17, 2026. A holiday peak fee runs from Oct 15, 2026 to Jan 14, 2027, about $0.32 a unit on average. Storage, aged inventory and low-inventory fees still apply on top. Re-cost every SKU with the full stack.
Key takeaways
- Amazon said 2026 fees would rise an average $0.08 a unit, under 0.5% of an average item's price, and that there would be no new FBA fee types in 2026.
- Fulfillment fees now depend on price band (under $10, $10 to $50, over $50) as well as size and weight. Small standard items priced $10 to $50 rose $0.25 a unit.
- The 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge applies to fulfillment fees, including peak fees, "until further notice".
- Amazon stopped prep and labeling services for US FBA inventory on Jan 1, 2026; unprepped units can lose reimbursement eligibility.
- Storage and aged inventory rates live in Seller Central. We do not print them until we can confirm them there.

Fulfillment fees from Jan 15, 2026
Amazon announced on Oct 15, 2025 that FBA fees would increase "by an average of $0.08 per unit sold, or less than 0.5% of an average item's selling price", effective Jan 15, 2026, with at least 90 days' notice. It also said: "There will be no new FBA fee types in 2026" (Amazon, Oct 15, 2025).
The structure changed more than the average suggests. Standard-size fulfillment fees are now set by three price bands as well as size tier and shipping weight. For standard-size products priced $10 to $50, Amazon said small standard fees would rise $0.25 a unit and large standard fees $0.05 a unit on average (Amazon's announcement as quoted on Sellers Ask Sellers). Vendor summaries add that standard-size items over $50 rose about $0.31 a unit on average, and that the discount for small standard items under $10 widened to $0.86 a unit (Acadia, Oct 20, 2025).
Selected 2026 US fulfillment fees, non-peak, non-apparel, before the fuel surcharge:
| Size tier and shipping weight | Under $10 | $10 to $50 | Over $50 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small standard, up to 2 oz | $2.43 | $3.32 | $3.58 |
| Small standard, 2 to 4 oz | $2.49 | $3.42 | $3.68 |
| Small standard, 6 to 8 oz | $2.66 | $3.54 | $3.80 |
| Small standard, 14 to 16 oz | $2.95 | $3.96 | $4.22 |
| Large standard, up to 4 oz | $2.91 | $3.73 | $3.99 |
| Large standard, 12 to 16 oz | $3.78 | $4.60 | $4.86 |
| Large standard, 1.25 to 1.5 lb | $4.60 | $5.42 | $5.68 |
| Large standard, 2.75 to 3 lb | $5.85 | $6.67 | $6.93 |
Rates as reproduced by SellerGuards from Amazon's 2026 rate card (updated Aug 2026), cross-checked against Amazon's own example of a small standard phone case at $2.49 non-peak (Supply Chain Dive, Jul 13, 2026). Confirm any SKU in Amazon's Revenue Calculator or your Fee Preview report, because size tier depends on packed dimensions as well as weight.
Vendor summaries also report changes to bulky and extra-large items: the bulky tier split into Small Bulky and Large Bulky, fees calculated on the greater of dimensional or unit weight, and an overmax handling fee from Jan 25, 2026 on extra-large items longer than 96 inches on their longest side (Acadia, Oct 20, 2025; AMZ Prep, vendor summaries). If you sell large items, check your own Fee Preview report rather than relying on summaries.
Referral fees are separate from FBA fees and vary by category. Amazon's examples: Home and Kitchen 15% with a $0.30 minimum, Computers 8% with a $0.30 minimum. The Professional selling plan is $39.99 a month (Amazon, sell.amazon.com, checked Oct 20, 2026).
The 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge
From Apr 17, 2026, Amazon adds a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge to FBA fulfillment fees in the US and Canada, and to Remote Fulfillment with FBA from the US into Canada, Mexico and Brazil. From May 2, 2026, it also applies to Multi-Channel Fulfillment and Buy with Prime. It is calculated on the fulfillment fee, not the sale price, and averages about $0.17 a unit for US FBA (Digital Commerce 360, Apr 3, 2026).
Amazon's explanation: "when costs remain elevated, we implement temporary surcharges on our fulfillment fees to recover a portion of the actual cost increases we are experiencing." A representative told Supply Chain Dive the surcharge stays in effect "until further notice", and it applies on top of holiday peak fees (Supply Chain Dive, Jul 13, 2026).
Illustrative · sample figures. A $5.00 fulfillment fee becomes $5.00 × 1.035 = $5.18. Over 10,000 units a month, that $0.18 is about $1,800.

Holiday peak fees, Oct 15, 2026 to Jan 14, 2027
Peak fees apply to units that leave a fulfillment center from Oct 15, 2026 to Jan 14, 2027, across FBA, Remote Fulfillment with FBA, Multi-Channel Fulfillment and Buy with Prime. The average increase is about $0.32 a unit, the same as last year's peak (Supply Chain Dive, Jul 13, 2026).
Amazon's examples, non-peak against peak:

|---|---|---|---|
| Mobile device case | Small standard | $2.49 | $2.68 |
| T-shirt | Large standard | $6.14 | $6.53 |
| Baby cot | Small bulky | $10.21 | $11.25 |
| TV, 50 to 70 lb | Extra large | $48.57 | $51.38 |
Source: Supply Chain Dive, Jul 13, 2026, reporting Amazon's announcement. The 3.5% surcharge applies on top.
Amazon also warned of lower capacity limits in November and December, as fulfillment centers prioritize customer orders, and advised sellers to bring inventory in by October.
Monthly storage fees
Amazon charges monthly storage on the space your inventory occupies, "calculated based on your daily average volume in cubic feet" (Amazon, sell.amazon.com). The rate depends on size tier and season, and it is higher from October to December than from January to September. Vendor summaries also describe a storage utilization surcharge for some sellers whose inventory sits longer relative to sales.
We do not print 2026 storage rates on this page. Vendor pages show more than one table, and we could not confirm the current figures on a public Amazon page. Check the Monthly Storage Fees report and the fee pages in Seller Central for your rates. To estimate your own exposure once you have them, use our Amazon storage fee calculator.
Aged inventory surcharge
Amazon charges an aged inventory surcharge monthly on items stored in a fulfillment center for more than 181 days (Amazon, sell.amazon.com). The charge rises with age in bands and is calculated per cubic foot, with a per-unit minimum on the oldest bands. Vendor summaries report two 2026 changes: a higher per-unit minimum for stock aged 12 to 15 months and a new top tier for stock older than 15 months (Acadia, Oct 20, 2025; AMZ Prep).
As with storage, we do not print the per-cubic-foot amounts until we confirm them in Seller Central. The practical rule does not need the number: plan for stock to sell well before day 181, and review anything approaching it each month. Discount, removal and disposal are the three exits, and Amazon's 2026 changes cut removal and disposal fees by $0.20 a unit for standard-size aged items under 0.5 lb (Amazon's announcement as quoted).
Low-inventory-level fee
Amazon charges a per-unit low-inventory-level fee only when both your 30-day and 90-day historical days of supply are below 28 days (Amazon staff, Seller Forums). Amazon said it would adjust the fee for 2026. Vendor summaries report that from Jan 15, 2026 it is measured per seller-FNSKU, so each variation counts on its own, and that it now covers Small Bulky and Large Bulky items (Acadia, Oct 20, 2025; AMZ Prep). Exemptions include new sellers, new parent products and items with fewer than 20 units sold in the past seven days.
The full rules, vendor-summarized amounts and a weekly check are in our Amazon low-inventory-level fee guide.
Inbound placement and the inbound defect fee
Inbound placement fees pay Amazon to spread your units across its network. Amazon describes the service on its FBA cost page, and new sellers can get a $400 credit toward inbound placement costs (Amazon, sell.amazon.com). Vendor summaries report that the fee depends on how many locations you ship to: choosing Amazon-optimized splits can avoid the fee, while a minimal split costs more per unit, and standard-size minimal-split fees rose about $0.05 a unit from Jan 15, 2026 (AMZ Prep, vendor summary).
The inbound defect fee, which covers late, misrouted or missing inbound shipments, averages about $0.60 a unit from Jan 15, 2026 (AMZ Prep, vendor summary). It is separate from placement fees and easier to avoid: book appointments you can meet, label every carton and ship to the destinations Amazon assigns.
Prep and labeling changes
Amazon stopped prep and item labeling services for US FBA inventory on Jan 1, 2026 (AMZ Prep, vendor summary). You or your 3PL now prep and label every unit before it ships to Amazon.
This matters beyond the inbound dock. Units that arrive without required prep or labels can lose eligibility for reimbursement if they are later lost or damaged. Since Mar 31, 2025, Amazon reimburses lost or damaged units at manufacturing cost rather than sale price, and claims for units lost or damaged in fulfillment centers must be filed within 60 days of the item being reported (eComEngine, updated Mar 7, 2025). Our FBA reimbursements page explains how monthly claims work.
Returns processing, removal and disposal
Amazon charges a returns processing fee "on orders when Amazon provides a customer with free return shipping", and per-item charges to return, dispose of or liquidate inventory (Amazon, sell.amazon.com). Vendor summaries describe the returns fee as charged on every return for apparel and shoes, and for other categories only when returns exceed a category threshold (AMZ Prep, vendor summary). Check the Fee Preview report for your categories.
Cash timing: payouts 7 days after delivery
From Mar 12, 2026, Amazon holds US payouts until 7 days after delivery, known as DD+7 or the Delivery Date Based Reserve (SPS Commerce, Apr 17, 2026; EcomCrew, May 24, 2026). It is not a fee, but it changes cash: money for an order now arrives a week after the customer receives it. Build that week into reorder timing and cash forecasts, especially before peak, when you pay for stock months before the sales land. Our profit and cash reporting service shows payouts held and when they land.
How to re-cost one SKU with the full 2026 fee stack
Re-cost every active SKU at least twice a year: once for the January fee change and once before peak.
Illustrative · sample figures. A kitchen tool sells for $24.99. Packed, it is small standard at 7 oz. Landed cost is $6.00 a unit.
| Line | Non-peak | Peak (Oct 15 to Jan 14) | Where the number comes from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sale price | $24.99 | $24.99 | Your price |
| Referral fee at 15% | $3.75 | $3.75 | Amazon's category rate (Home and Kitchen example) |
| Fulfillment fee | $3.54 | About $3.86 | 2026 rate card, small standard 6 to 8 oz, $10 to $50; peak adds about $0.32 on average |
| Fuel and logistics surcharge, 3.5% | $0.12 | $0.14 | 3.5% of the fulfillment fee |
| Storage and other FBA fees per unit | $0.10 | $0.25 | From your own Monthly Storage Fees report (sample) |
| Landed cost | $6.00 | $6.00 | Your purchase and freight costs |
| Left per unit before ads and overheads | $11.48 | $10.99 |
The fee rates are Amazon's as sourced above; the price, landed cost and storage per unit are examples, not a forecast for any product. The peak figure uses Amazon's average increase, so your own SKU may differ.
Then ask three questions. Does the peak line still clear your margin floor after ad cost? Is any SKU close to 181 days in FBA? Is any fast seller close to 28 days of supply? Brands that want this done for every SKU automatically can use Margin Guard, which alerts when a SKU falls below its floor. How much did Amazon FBA fees increase in 2026?
Amazon said fees would rise by an average of $0.08 per unit sold, or less than 0.5% of an average item's selling price, from Jan 15, 2026. Small standard items priced $10 to $50 rose $0.25 a unit and large standard items $0.05 on average. A 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge was added on Apr 17, 2026.
What is Amazon's 3.5% fuel surcharge?
It is a temporary surcharge Amazon added to FBA fulfillment fees from Apr 17, 2026, then extended to Multi-Channel Fulfillment and Buy with Prime from May 2, 2026. It is 3.5% of the fulfillment fee, about $0.17 a unit on average in the US, and Amazon says it stays until further notice. It applies on top of holiday peak fees.
When are Amazon's 2026 holiday peak fees?
From Oct 15, 2026 to Jan 14, 2027, on units that leave a fulfillment center in that window. The average increase is about $0.32 a unit. Amazon's own examples include a small standard phone case going from $2.49 to $2.68. The fuel surcharge applies on top.
Did Amazon add new FBA fees in 2026?
Amazon said "There will be no new FBA fee types in 2026." It restructured existing ones instead: price bands for fulfillment fees, adjustments to low-inventory-level fees and changes for bulky items. The fuel and logistics surcharge, added in April, is described by Amazon as a temporary surcharge on fulfillment fees.
What are Amazon's storage fees in 2026?
Amazon charges monthly storage per cubic foot of your daily average volume, at a higher rate in October to December than the rest of the year, varying by size tier. We do not print rates until we can confirm them in Seller Central. Check your Monthly Storage Fees report and Seller Central fee pages for current figures.
When does Amazon's aged inventory surcharge start?
Amazon charges it monthly on items stored in a fulfillment center for more than 181 days, and it rises as stock gets older. Vendor summaries report a new tier in 2026 for stock older than 15 months. Plan for stock to sell well before day 181 and review anything approaching it every month.
Does Amazon still prep and label FBA inventory?
Not in the US. Amazon stopped its prep and item labeling services for US FBA inventory on Jan 1, 2026. Sellers or their 3PLs now prep and label every unit before shipping, and units sent without required prep can lose reimbursement eligibility if they are later lost or damaged.
How do I check my own 2026 FBA fees?
Use Amazon's Revenue Calculator for a single ASIN and the Fee Preview report in Seller Central for your whole catalog. Check packed dimensions first, because a few millimeters can move an item into a higher size tier. Then add referral fees, storage and the 3.5% surcharge to see the full cost per unit.
