Amazon account health warning: what to do in the first 24 hours

A warning is a notice, not yet a suspension. Read it, find the exact cause, fix it, answer with facts and then watch the metrics daily so the next one is caught early.

Account Health Watch $750 · daily checks in Store Care and Ops Desk · appeals $750 per case, no outcome guarantee

When you get an Amazon account health warning, read the notice, find the exact policy or metric it names, fix the root cause and respond through the Account Health dashboard with facts and documents, the same business day if you can. Then check the metrics every day so the next warning is caught early. No one can promise a reinstatement, and no one should.

What it looks like

"We find account health problems when it is already too late."

The notice arrived on Thursday. Nobody opened Seller Central on Friday. By Monday the listing is already inactive. The warning was not hidden. Nobody owned the dashboard.

It usually builds the same way. Late shipments and cancellations creep up in busy weeks. Policy notices land in an inbox one person reads. When a response finally goes out, it is written in a hurry, without the invoices or test reports that would have closed the case.

What is at stake

Amazon publishes the lines it expects you to stay inside. Keep your order defect rate under 1% "to avoid restrictions on your selling privileges", your cancellation rate below 2.5% "to prevent deactivation" and, for seller-fulfilled orders, your late shipment rate "ideally under 4%" (Sell on Amazon, selling policies). Amazon's Account Health Rating is a color-coded score from 0 to 1,000 that sums up your policy compliance.

The money is simple arithmetic. An account selling $1M a year on Amazon has about $2,740 of sales a day at stake while selling is paused ($1M ÷ 365; Illustrative · sample figures).

Warning or suspension?

A warning asks you to fix something. An account-level deactivation stops selling. Know which one you have before you act.

Warnings and listing-level actions usually name an ASIN, a policy or a metric and give you a way to respond in the Account Health dashboard (Seller Central, Performance, Account Health). Your other listings keep selling while you fix it. A deactivation removes your selling privileges until Amazon accepts a plan of action, and it needs a fuller response: what happened, the root cause, what you fixed and what stops it happening again. Our Account Health Rating guide explains the score and each metric in detail.

What to do with an Amazon account health warning in the first 24 hours

These eight steps run in order. The order matters, because answering before you have fixed the cause is a common way to lose a case you could have won.

  1. 01Save the notice.

Screenshot it with the date, the ASINs and the exact policy it names. Notices change or move; your record should not.

  2. 02Classify it.

A performance metric (defects, cancellations, late shipments), a policy issue (intellectual property, authenticity, product safety, a restricted product, listing policy) or an account-level issue (verification, related accounts).

  3. 03Check the scope.

One listing, several ASINs or the whole account. Scope tells you how urgent it is.

  4. 04Find the root cause in your own data.

Orders and shipping records for metrics; supplier invoices for authenticity; listing text and images for claims; the safety documents for product safety.

  5. 05Fix it first.

Remove the claim, correct the listing, pull the stock, change the process. Amazon reads the response for evidence that the problem has stopped.

  6. 06Gather the documents.

Invoices that trace the goods to the manufacturer, test reports, certificates, trademark records. Category documents matter most in regulated categories such as supplements and baby products; our category requirements by industry list what each one asks for.

  7. 07Respond through the Account Health dashboard with facts.

What happened, why, what you fixed and what prevents a repeat. Short, specific and calm.

  8. 08Log it and set a follow-up date.

Note what you sent, when and what you expect next.

Mistakes that make it worse

Most cases that go badly were made worse in the first two days. Avoid these:

  • Opening a new account to keep selling. It does not solve the problem, and it can tie the new account to the old one.
  • Paying for "black hat" fixes, bought reviews or anyone who promises reinstatement.
  • Blaming Amazon or customers in the response.
  • Sending a template appeal with no root cause in it.
  • Editing a listing to hide a problem instead of fixing it.
  • Sharing your Seller Central password. Amazon staff advise sellers never to share passwords and to give service providers their own access (Amazon Seller Forums). Our security and access page explains how we work without it.

Why warnings are found late

Warnings are rarely missed because they are subtle. They are missed because nobody owns the dashboard. The metrics move every day with shipping, cancellations and buyer messages. Notices go to an inbox that one person reads, sometimes. The documents you need sit across email threads and shared drives, so a response that should take an hour takes three days.

What to do yourself first

Set this up this week, before the next notice:

  • Name one owner for account health and one backup.
  • Check the Account Health dashboard every business day at the same time.
  • Forward Amazon performance notifications to two people, not one.
  • Build one folder per product: invoices, certificates, test reports, trademark records.
  • Review cancellations and late shipments every week.

How we run it

Account Health Watch is the Relay Module that builds this for your team: the daily check, a log of every notice, a document vault per product and a prepared response format. It is a standard module at $750, built to a written spec, with anything that fails acceptance fixed free for 60 days. See Account Health Watch.

If you would rather we did the checking, Store Care (from $399 a month) and Ops Desk (from $1,499 a month) include daily account health checks, and we act on warnings the same business day. Reinstatement appeals are a separate add-on: $750 per case, or $500 on a monthly plan, with no outcome guarantee. Amazon account health management covers the full service.

Founding offer: 20% off launch fees, add-ons and the Foundation, plus 20% off monthly plans for the first 6 months, for our first 25 clients or until Jan 31, 2027, whichever comes first. See pricing.

How to measure it

Track four numbers. Hours from notice to response. Notices still open. The trend in order defect, cancellation and late shipment rates. The share of active ASINs with documents on file, which is the early warning that is easiest to miss. We report these. We do not promise an outcome on any case, because Amazon decides.

What does help with an Amazon warning cost?

A first session with an Amazon specialist is free. Account Health Watch, the module that sets up daily checks and a document vault for your team, is $750. Reinstatement appeals are $750 per case, or $500 on a monthly plan, with no outcome guarantee. Daily checks are included in Store Care and Ops Desk.

How fast should we respond to a warning?

As soon as the root cause is fixed and documented, ideally the same business day. If the notice gives a deadline, that comes first. A fast response with no fix behind it is worse than a careful one a day later, because Amazon reads it as a repeat risk.

Can you promise reinstatement?

No. No one can, and anyone who says otherwise is selling something you should not buy. Amazon decides every case. What we do is find the root cause, fix what is in your control, prepare the facts and documents and write a clear response for you to approve.

Should we open a new account to keep selling?

No. Work through the Account Health dashboard on the account you have. A second account does not fix the cause, and it can link the new account to the problem on the old one. Fix the issue, respond with facts and keep selling on the listings that are unaffected.

Do we need a lawyer?

For intellectual property disputes, product liability questions or complex deactivations, an attorney can help, and we work alongside yours. Most performance warnings and many listing policy notices do not need one. We prepare the operations facts: order records, invoices, listing changes and the timeline of what was fixed.

What are Amazon's main account health targets?

Amazon asks sellers to keep the order defect rate under 1%, the cancellation rate below 2.5% and, for seller-fulfilled orders, the late shipment rate ideally under 4%. Account Health Rating then scores policy compliance from 0 to 1,000. Check all of them daily in the Account Health dashboard.

A warning is a request to fix something. Treat it as one, the same day, with facts.
