Every 2026 Amazon change for sellers, and how to respond

2026 brought small changes that add up. Here is each one, the date it took effect, who it hits and the one thing to do about it, checked against Amazon's own announcements.

Amazon's 2026 seller changes: prep services ended (Jan 1), FBA fees rose $0.08 on average (Jan 15), payouts moved to delivery plus 7 days (Mar 12), commingling ended (Mar 31), a 3.5% fuel surcharge began (Apr 17), Alexa for Shopping brought Rufus and Alexa+ together (May 13), titles capped at 75 characters (Jul 27) and a peak fee runs to Jan 14, 2027.

How to read this page

Each change carries a status, so you know how sure we are. Confirmed by Amazon means we read it on an Amazon page or an official Amazon post on Oct 20, 2026. Amazon notice, quoted means sellers published Amazon's notice and we could not find it on a public Amazon page. Reported means trade press or vendors reported it and we could not confirm it on Amazon; treat it as unconfirmed. The date at the top of the page shows when we last checked every entry.

Rules from before 2026 that still matter this year: lost or damaged units before a customer order are reimbursed at manufacturing cost since Mar 31, 2025 (Amazon Seller Forums, reimbursement policy; Amazon Seller Forums, new effective date); the low-inventory-level fee applies when both 30-day and 90-day days of supply are below 28 (Amazon staff, Seller Forums).

Prep and labeling: what changed and what to do

Amazon said: "Starting January 1, 2026, we'll no longer offer prep and item labeling services for FBA shipments in the US store." Trade press reports that shipments created after that date that arrive without proper prep or labels are not eligible for reimbursement if lost or damaged (Packaging Insights, Oct 29, 2025; Supply Chain Dive, Aug 1, 2025). What to do: prep in-house or with a prep center; check every SKU's prep requirement before you book freight; photograph cartons before they ship.

FBA fees and the "no new fee types" promise

FBA fees rose an average $0.08 per unit sold on Jan 15, 2026, which Amazon puts at less than 0.5% of an average item's price. Amazon also said "There will be no new FBA fee types in 2026" and committed to at least 90 days' notice before increases (Amazon, 2026 fee update). The fuel and logistics surcharge arrived in April as a percentage on existing fulfillment fees (Amazon Seller Forums, fuel and logistics surcharge). What to do: re-run your unit economics in the Revenue Calculator and Fee and Economics Preview; check Amazon's Profit Analytics dashboard by product (Amazon, 2026 fee update).

DD+7 payouts

From Mar 12, 2026, funds become available seven days after Amazon confirms delivery. The notice, as sellers have quoted it in Seller Forums, also warned of a one-time cash flow impact while the change took effect (Amazon notice as quoted by sellers). What to do: add the delivery gap to your cash plan; for FBM, use carriers with reliable delivery scans.

Commingling ends

For inventory shipped on or after Mar 31, 2026, Brand Representatives in Brand Registry no longer need Amazon barcode stickers on products with a manufacturer barcode; resellers must use Amazon barcode stickers even when the product has one; and everyone must label products without a manufacturer barcode (Amazon Seller Forums, commingling ends). Amazon expected the end of commingling to save sellers about $600 million a year (Amazon, Sep 17, 2025 seller tools). What to do: brands, confirm your Brand Representative role and UPCs; resellers, add labeling to every inbound plan.

The 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge

From Apr 17, 2026, a 3.5% surcharge applies to fulfillment fees for FBA in the US and Canada and Remote Fulfillment; from May 2, 2026 for Buy with Prime and Multi-Channel Fulfillment. It averages about $0.17 per unit for US FBA and varies by size (Amazon Seller Forums, fuel and logistics surcharge). It applies to the fee, not your sale price. What to do: add 3.5% to every fulfillment fee in your margin model; check SKUs near your margin floor.

Alexa for Shopping

On May 13, 2026 Amazon launched Alexa for Shopping, which brings Rufus and Alexa+ together, free for signed-in US customers in the app, on the website and on Echo Show. Shoppers can ask questions in the search bar, compare products side by side, read AI overviews in results and on product pages, see up to a year of price history, set price alerts and auto-buy at a set price (About Amazon, Alexa for Shopping). Amazon says Rufus helped over 300 million customers in 2025 (About Amazon, Alexa for Shopping). What to do: write titles and bullets that answer real questions; fill every attribute; keep prices steady, because shoppers can now see a year of history and set auto-buy prices. Module 05 shows how.

75-character titles and Item Highlights

From Jul 27, 2026, titles must be 75 characters or less including spaces in every category except media. A new Item Highlights field adds 125 characters for materials or use cases, searchable and shown in results. Titles still over 75 characters are being updated to AI recommendations gradually; listings stay active; brand owners get 14 days to review changes in Review Listings Changes (Amazon Seller Forums, title update). What to do: rewrite your own titles before Amazon does; use View enhancements in Manage All Inventory to see Amazon's suggestion; check the review queue weekly. Module 05 shows the method.

Service provider access

Amazon's developer documentation now describes how sellers authorize outside providers: the provider, registered in Solution Provider Portal, sends an authorization link (or you choose "Authorize Now" on its Service Provider Network listing); you review the roles it is approved for, can restrict them and confirm, and "the authorization is good for 365 days" (Amazon developer docs). Trade press reports that Amazon retired the old invite process for providers on Aug 10, 2026 and is asking sellers to reauthorize existing provider access by deadlines sent to each seller (beBOLD Digital, 2026). We list it as reported until we confirm it on a public Amazon announcement. What to do: read any reauthorization notice in Seller Central; list every provider with access; grant only the roles each needs; never share your password. Module 04 explains access.

Seller Assistant, workflows and the Quick and Claude plugin

On Sep 23, 2026 Amazon added workflows to Seller Assistant that keep running when you are logged out, with templates for account health, order summaries, pricing trends and product expansion. Actions are reviewed and approved by the seller before they run, and logged with an audit trail. A plugin connects Seller Assistant to Amazon Quick and Claude, in beta for US stores. Every primary account holder can claim 12 months of Amazon Quick Plus free, available through Dec 31, 2026. Amazon also announced Enhance My Listing, a generative AI listing tool (About Amazon, Seller Assistant plugin). What to do: start with read-only workflows (alerts and summaries); require approval for any action; keep a log of what the assistant changed.

Holiday peak fee and Q4 cut-offs

From Oct 15, 2026 to Jan 14, 2027, peak fulfillment fees average about $0.32 a unit above non-peak rates, with the 3.5% surcharge on top, for FBA, Remote Fulfillment, MCF and Buy with Prime. Capacity limits may be lower in the holidays; Capacity Manager lets you bid for more. Amazon's Black Friday and Cyber Monday inbound cut-offs were Oct 14 (AWD), Oct 21 (FBA minimal splits) and Oct 28 (FBA Amazon-optimized splits) (Amazon Seller Forums, 2026 holiday peak fees). What to do: price Q4 with the peak fee; plan January removals of slow stock.

What should you do this month?

  1. Re-run unit economics for your top 20 SKUs with the 2026 fees, the 3.5% surcharge and the peak fee.
  2. Check every title is 75 characters or less and Item Highlights are filled.
  3. Confirm your labeling plan matches your role (Brand Representative or reseller).
  4. Update manufacturing cost in Seller Central so reimbursements are valued correctly.
  5. Put DD+7 into your cash plan.
  6. Review the Review Listings Changes queue.
