Module 06: Walmart seller metrics explained, all eight standards

Walmart seller metrics, explained in one line each: Walmart lists eight performance standards.

Cancellation rate 2% or below; on-time delivery 90% or above; valid tracking 99% or above; seller response 95% or above within 48 hours; negative feedback 2% or below; return rate 6% or below (9% for resold items); item not received 2% or below; late shipment 5% or below (Walmart Marketplace Learn, Seller performance standards, updated Jul 28, 2026).

Miss them and Walmart can suppress your seller-fulfilled listings, pause all listings, suspend the account or terminate it. Meet them and the same numbers open the door to Pro Seller and the Walmart+ badge. This lesson takes each standard in turn, shows a worked example and gives you a daily routine.

Most new stores take months to find steady sales, and some never do. Inventory, platform fees, freight and ad spend are paid by you.

Walmart seller metrics explained, one by one

Walmart says the standards are "evaluated over the last 30 days or 60 days" and names the window for three of them. Each standard has a usual cause when it breaks:

StandardThresholdWhat it measuresWindowWhat usually breaks it
Cancellation rate2% or belowOrders you cancel30 or 60 daysStock sold on another channel
On-time delivery rate90% or aboveOrders delivered by the expected delivery date30 or 60 daysPromises your carrier cannot keep
Valid tracking rate99% or aboveOrders with valid tracking30 or 60 daysTracking uploaded late or mistyped
Seller response rate95% or aboveCustomer inquiries answered within 48 hours30 or 60 daysNobody owns the inbox on weekends
Negative feedback rate2% or belowOrders with negative feedbackOrders sold in the past 60 daysProduct, packaging or listing mismatch
Return rate6% or below (9% resold)Delivered orders returned for seller-related reasonsOrders delivered in the past 60 daysSizing, content, damage
Item not received rate2% or belowOrders customers report not receivingOrders with expected delivery in the past 60 daysLost parcels, wrong addresses, no signature
Late shipment rate5% or belowSelf-fulfilled orders "not handed off to the carrier by the Expected Ship Date"30 or 60 daysHandling times too short for busy days

Worked example: one month of seller-fulfilled orders

Illustrative · sample figures. 400 seller-fulfilled orders in the window.

StandardCountRateThresholdStatus
Cancellations61.5%2% or belowPass
On-time delivery368 delivered on time92.0%90% or abovePass, thin margin
Valid tracking394 with valid tracking98.5%99% or aboveMiss
Late shipment24 shipped late6.0%5% or belowMiss

Two misses, one cause: handling times too short for the busiest days, so orders were handed to the carrier late and tracking went up late. The fix is to lengthen handling time on the slowest SKUs and upload tracking the moment a label is printed, not to work harder on the bad days. On a small store each order moves the rate a lot: at 400 orders, four more late shipments is another percentage point.

What changed in 2026?

  • Return rate and item not received rate became standards.

Walmart said in January 2026 that it would retire the refund rate and add these two, official in spring 2026 (Marketplace newsletter, January 2026).

  • Late shipment rate became a standard.

Walmart's Jul 9, 2026 release note said it would become an accountable standard at the end of July, at 5% or less (Walmart release notes).

  • The resold return rate threshold rose.

On Jul 28, 2026 Walmart raised the return rate standard for resold categories from 6% to 9% (same source).

  • Negative feedback applies to WFS sellers too.

Walmart's January newsletter said the negative feedback standard applies to WFS and API users.

  • Long suspensions can end in termination.

Since Oct 2, 2026, Walmart may terminate accounts that stay suspended beyond a reasonable threshold without a successful appeal (Walmart release notes).

  • Inactive accounts.

Since Oct 5, 2026, accounts inactive for 455 consecutive days may be suspended, with notice first and 90 days to appeal (same source).

What happens if you miss one?

Walmart says you "must take immediate action to improve your performance", and that failing to do so "may result in suppression, suspension or termination". Its enforcement steps escalate (Walmart Marketplace Learn, Seller suspension and termination, updated Oct 2, 2026):

StepWhat it means
SuppressionSeller-fulfilled listings can no longer be bought and may show out of stock; WFS listings stay visible
PauseSeller-fulfilled and WFS listings can no longer be bought
SuspensionListings hidden from search, Seller Center access restricted, payments held
TerminationAll listings removed, selling privileges and Seller Center access permanently revoked, payments held

What is the higher bar?

Pro Seller asks for more: on-time delivery at least 95%, cancellations no more than 1.5%, seller responsiveness at least 95%, a shipping speed score of at least 50% and content quality and price competitiveness scores of at least 75% (Walmart, Pro Seller). Benefits include the Pro Seller badge, a 10% referral fee discount on qualified Pro listings and faster payouts. Scale on Walmart compares the seller tiers.

The Walmart+ badge for seller-fulfilled items needs free delivery to Walmart+ members in three calendar days or less, an on-time delivery rate of 90% or better and a cancellation rate under 2.5%, from a US-based business (Walmart, Walmart+ badge). Since Sep 9, 2026 sellers can qualify over a 14-day lookback period (Walmart release notes).

How do you watch them? A routine, step by step

  1. 01Daily:

open the Performance dashboard in Seller Center and check each standard and its trend. Act the same day on anything moving toward its limit.

  2. 02Daily:

confirm every seller-fulfilled order shipped today has valid tracking uploaded.

  3. 03Daily, including weekends:

clear the customer inbox inside 48 hours.

  4. 04Weekly:

review causes, not just numbers: which SKUs, carriers or warehouses produced the misses.

  5. 05Monthly:

read return reasons by SKU and fix the listing, sizing or packaging behind the top three.

  6. 06Before peak:

lengthen handling times and confirm carrier pickups for the busiest weeks.

Common mistakes

  • Selling the last unit on two channels.

    Overselling becomes cancellations.

  • Handling times set for a quiet week.

Late shipment and on-time delivery suffer on the busy ones.

  • Tracking uploaded in one batch each evening,

    or retyped by hand.

  • No weekend inbox owner.

The 48-hour clock does not stop on Saturday.

  • Arguing with negative feedback

instead of fixing the product or listing that caused it.

Key takeaways

  • Eight standards; know every threshold.
  • WFS meets most metrics for WFS orders; negative feedback still counts.
  • Fix causes, not numbers: handling times, tracking, inbox ownership, stock sync.
  • Check daily; act the same day.
  • Pro Seller and the Walmart+ badge are higher, separate bars.

Do this now

  • Write all eight thresholds on one sheet next to your current numbers.
  • Name one person who checks them every business day, and one for weekends.
  • Set handling times you can meet on your busiest day.
  • Make sure every seller-fulfilled order gets valid tracking the day it ships.
  • Compare your numbers with the Pro Seller bar.

Problem and fix

"We find account health problems when it is already too late." Cause: no daily owner. Fix: the daily routine and same-day action. Relay Module: Account Health Watch (RELAY-05, $750), a daily check of all eight standards with a compliance vault and appeal preparation; or our Walmart account health service. Measure: time from warning to action.

How many performance standards does Walmart have?

Eight in 2026: cancellation rate, on-time delivery rate, valid tracking rate, seller response rate, negative feedback rate, return rate, item not received rate and late shipment rate (Walmart Marketplace Learn, Seller performance standards). Any shorter list you see elsewhere is a subset.

What is Walmart's late shipment rate standard?

5% or below: the share of self-fulfilled orders not handed to the carrier by the expected ship date (Walmart Marketplace Learn, Late shipment rate). Walmart made it an accountable standard at the end of July 2026. Longer handling times on slow-to-pack SKUs are the usual fix.

Does WFS count toward my metrics?

Walmart meets most metrics for WFS orders, but the negative feedback rate still applies to you, because it reflects the product and listing. Seller-fulfilled orders count toward all eight.

What happens if I miss a standard once?

Walmart notifies you by email and in Seller Center and expects immediate action. If performance does not improve, it can suppress seller-fulfilled listings, pause listings, suspend or terminate the account. Fix the cause and keep a note of what you changed in case you need to appeal.

Is the refund rate still a standard?

No. Walmart said in January 2026 that it would retire the refund rate and add return rate and item not received rate, official in spring 2026. Both now appear on the standards page.

What is the Walmart return rate standard?

6% or below for orders delivered in the past 60 days, or 9% or below for resold items. It counts returns for seller-related reasons, so sizing charts, accurate descriptions and better packaging are the main levers.

Can I unsubscribe from performance notices?

No. Walmart sends them by email and in Seller Center, and sellers cannot opt out. Route them to a shared inbox someone reads every day.
