Module 08: How Amazon sellers expand to Walmart
When Amazon sellers expand to Walmart, the business carries over but the listings do not.
Your products, suppliers, GS1 barcodes and selling record come with you, and the record helps your application, because Walmart asks for a "history of marketplace or eCommerce success" (Walmart Marketplace). Your Amazon listings, reviews and Brand Registry status do not carry over.
So the work is: map the catalog to Walmart's product types, register your brand in Walmart's Brand Portal (which needs a registered USPTO trademark), keep one stock count across both channels and plan promotions together, so a deal on Amazon does not get your Walmart items unpublished. This lesson puts that in launch order.
Most new stores take months to find steady sales, and some never do. Inventory, platform fees, freight and ad spend are paid by you.
What carries over when Amazon sellers expand to Walmart?
| From Amazon | On Walmart |
|---|---|
| Products, suppliers, GS1 barcodes | Carry over, if your GTINs trace to your GS1 company prefix |
| Selling record | Helps: Walmart asks for a history of marketplace or ecommerce success |
| Listings | Rebuild: Walmart has its own product types, attributes and Listing Quality score. Express setup can import listings from another marketplace through Versori as a starting point (Walmart Marketplace Learn, Complete onboarding) |
| Reviews | Do not carry over |
| Brand Registry | Does not carry over. Brand Portal needs a trademark "fully registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office"; a pending application is generally not eligible (Walmart Marketplace Learn, Brand Portal) |
| FBA inventory | Stays at Amazon. Walmart orders ship from WFS, your 3PL or Amazon Multi-Channel Fulfillment under Walmart's rules |
| Fees | Different model: no monthly fee on Walmart; a referral fee by contract category, 15% for Everything Else |
| Prices | Walmart compares your price with other sites, including Amazon |
That Brand Portal point catches many Amazon brands. Amazon accepts a pending trademark for Brand Registry (Sell on Amazon, Brand Registry requirements); Walmart does not for Brand Portal. If your mark is still pending, plan Walmart without brand tools until it registers (Amazon module 03).
What order should you launch in?
- 01Check fit.
Contribution per unit at Walmart's market price, after the referral fee and fulfillment. Our fee and margin calculator puts both channels side by side.
- 02Apply
in your business name with matching documents, and finish payments setup within 30 days (module 02).
- 03Register your brand
in Brand Portal if your trademark is registered.
- 04Map the catalog,
starting with 10 to 25 items that sell steadily on Amazon and fit Walmart's categories (module 03).
- 05Set up one stock count
before the first Walmart order, with buffers per channel.
- 06Choose fulfillment per SKU:
WFS for steady sellers; your 3PL for the rest (module 05).
- 07Price inside the rules:
floors and ceilings in Repricer, and Walmart prices checked before any Amazon promotion (module 04).
- 08Watch the first 30 days daily:
unpublished items, cancellations, tracking, replies.
How do you keep one stock count?
There are two common setups, and each has a cost:
| Setup | Upside | Risk |
|---|---|---|
| Separate stock: FBA for Amazon, WFS for Walmart | Low overselling risk | Cash split across two networks; one can run out while the other overstocks |
| Shared stock: one 3PL or warehouse feeds both | Less cash tied up | Overselling turns into Walmart cancellations (standard: 2% or below) |
With shared stock, use a multichannel inventory tool or stock system that pushes one count to every channel, with buffers and mapped bundles.
Worked example. Illustrative · sample figures. 300 units sit in your 3PL and serve Walmart seller-fulfilled orders and your own store. Your sync runs every few minutes, and at peak you sell up to 10 units between syncs. Publish 290 to each channel, holding a 10-unit buffer. A 3-pack bundle of the same item shows 96 (290 ÷ 3, rounded down). When the count reaches the buffer, both channels show zero before anyone can buy a unit you do not have. Our multichannel inventory sync guide covers the tools.
Can you use Amazon stock for Walmart orders, or Walmart stock for Amazon orders?
Both, with conditions.
- Amazon Multi-Channel Fulfillment for Walmart orders.
Amazon says MCF orders ship "in blank packaging without any Amazon branding, at no additional cost", and that to fulfill Walmart Marketplace orders "you need to select unbranded boxes and choose alternate carriers", blocking Amazon Logistics. Amazon lists a 5% surcharge for blocking Amazon Logistics, waived until Jan 14, 2027 (Amazon Supply Chain, Nov 13, 2025).
- Walmart Multichannel Solutions for Amazon orders.
Walmart fulfills orders from other channels, including Amazon, eBay, Shein, Temu, social shops and your own site, from WFS stock in "unbranded poly bags or brown boxes". Standard shipping starts at $7.45 for one unit at 6 oz or less, and Walmart charges "zero Marketplace referral fees for non-Walmart orders" (Walmart Multichannel Solutions).
Check each channel's own current rules on fulfillment, carriers and packaging before relying on either.
What about price parity?
Walmart's pricing rules compare your price with prices "currently or recently offered" and with competing websites (Walmart Marketplace Learn, Pricing rules). A deal on Amazon can therefore change how your Walmart price looks.
Example. Illustrative · sample figures. An item sells at $29.99 on both channels. You run a 25% Amazon deal at $22.49. If Walmart's comparison picks up the deal price, your Walmart offer is now about a third above it, and could lose the Add to cart button or be unpublished while the deal runs. Walmart publishes no percentage, so the safe rule is to plan promotions across channels in one calendar and decide in advance whether Walmart matches, sits out or accepts the risk.
Common mistakes
-
Copying Amazon listings field by field.
Map them to Walmart's product types and attributes.
-
Assuming Brand Registry covers Walmart.
Brand Portal is separate and needs a registered mark.
-
Launching the whole catalog at once.
Start with 10 to 25 steady sellers and learn.
-
No shared stock count
before the first order.
-
Running Amazon deals without checking Walmart prices.
Key takeaways
- Your record helps; your listings, reviews and Brand Registry do not carry over.
- Brand Portal needs a registered USPTO trademark.
- One stock count, with buffers, before the first order.
- Promotions on Amazon can affect Walmart's price checks.
- MCF and Walmart Multichannel Solutions can each fulfill the other channel's orders, under rules.
Do this now
- Pick 10 to 25 steady Amazon sellers and price each on Walmart per unit.
- Check your trademark status: registered or pending.
- Decide separate or shared stock, and set buffers.
- Put Amazon and Walmart promotions in one calendar.
- Read module 02 before you apply.

Problem and fix
"We want to add a channel without breaking what already works." Cause: no shared stock count and a copied catalog. Fix: catalog mapped, one stock count, prices planned together. Relay Modules: Channel Launch (RELAY-10, priced as a Walmart Store Launch, $1,499) and Stock Flow (RELAY-03). Measure: cancellations, unpublished count, buy box win rate.

Can Amazon sellers sell on Walmart?
Yes, if Walmart approves the application. An Amazon selling record helps, because Walmart asks for a history of marketplace or ecommerce success. You still need a business tax ID, matching documents, GS1 barcodes and a fulfillment plan.
Can I copy my Amazon listings to Walmart?
You can import them as a start through Express setup, but Walmart has its own product types and attributes. Map and complete them so the Listing Quality score can rate them well.
Does Amazon Brand Registry work on Walmart?
No. Walmart uses Brand Portal, which needs an active trademark fully registered with the USPTO. A pending application that works for Amazon Brand Registry is generally not eligible for Brand Portal.
Will an Amazon promotion affect my Walmart listing?
It can. Walmart compares your price with competing websites and recent prices, so a deep Amazon discount can make your Walmart price look too high and cost the Add to cart button or the listing. Plan promotions in one calendar.
Can I use FBA stock for Walmart orders?
Amazon says Multi-Channel Fulfillment can fulfill Walmart Marketplace orders if you select unbranded boxes and alternate carriers, blocking Amazon Logistics; a 5% surcharge for that is waived until Jan 14, 2027 (Amazon Supply Chain). Check Walmart's current shipping rules too.
Can Walmart fulfill my Amazon orders?
Yes. Walmart Multichannel Solutions fulfills orders from other channels, including Amazon, from your WFS stock in unbranded packaging, with its own fees and no Walmart referral fee on those orders.
Is Walmart worth adding for an Amazon brand?
It can be, for products with steady demand and a margin that survives Walmart's fees, run by a team that can meet Walmart's eight standards. Run the per-unit math for your top 10 to 25 items before you apply; channel growth says nothing about a single product.
