Module 07: Sell on Amazon, Walmart and AI channels from Shopify
You can sell on Amazon and Walmart from Shopify, and in AI chats too, with Shopify as the home of your brand and the hub for every other channel. The hard part is keeping one stock count true, not listing products elsewhere.
Quick answer
Shopify connects to Amazon, Walmart, eBay and Target Plus through Marketplace Connect (first 50 synced orders a month free, then 1% per additional synced order, capped at $99) and to AI chats through Agentic Storefronts, on by default. Before adding any channel, set one stock count, channel prices that keep margin and a plan for each channel's rules.
Lesson 7 of 8 in our free Shopify guide. Read it in about 10 minutes, then work through the checklist at the end.
Most new stores take months to find steady sales, and some never do. Inventory, platform fees, freight and ad spend are paid by you.
How do you sell on Amazon and Walmart from Shopify?
With a connector app and a seller account on each marketplace. The table shows the routes Shopify offers and what each costs on Shopify's side.
| Channel | How from Shopify | Cost from Shopify's side (read Oct 20, 2026) | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon, Walmart, eBay, Target Plus | Marketplace Connect app, or another listing tool | Free to install; first 50 synced orders a month free, then 1% per additional synced order, capped at $99 a month | Each marketplace's own fees, account approval and performance standards |
| ChatGPT, Copilot, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Meta | Agentic Storefronts, managed on the Agentic page under Sales channels | For ChatGPT, "no transaction fees beyond standard processing rates" (Shopify News, Mar 24, 2026) | Product data quality; whether checkout is on your store or in the channel |
| Other Shopify stores | Shopify Collective | Free, subject to eligibility | Supplier shipping and return policies |
Marketplace fees are separate and paid to each marketplace. See the Amazon guide and Walmart guide.
The steps are the same for either marketplace:
- 01Get approved as a seller.
Open a seller account on Amazon, or apply to Walmart Marketplace, in your business's name.
- 02Connect the account
to Marketplace Connect or another listing tool, using the access route the marketplace offers, never a shared password.
- 03Match each product
to the marketplace's catalog with its product identifier (a UPC or other GTIN) and the category the marketplace expects.
- 04Set channel prices and stock buffers
from the margin check below and the stock rules in the next section.
- 05Choose fulfillment:
your own warehouse, a 3PL, FBA or WFS.
- 06Place a test order,
or watch the first few orders closely, and confirm stock drops in Shopify and tracking reaches the marketplace.
Run the margin again for every new channel, because the fees change the answer (illustrative · sample figures). A $40 product with $12 landed cost earns $8.54 per order on Shopify in the Start guide's example. On Walmart, the referral fee is set by category: 15% for the Everything Else category, and each category has its own rate (Walmart referral fee schedule, Mar 9, 2026). At 15%, that is $6 an order before shipping or fulfillment fees. If the margin left is too thin, change the price on that channel, list a bundle instead or skip the channel for that product.
Amazon's Multi-Channel Fulfillment can also ship your Shopify orders from FBA stock (Amazon, Sep 18, 2025), which some brands use to hold one inventory pool for both channels.
One stock count before any new channel
- Map every SKU and bundle across channels.
- Decide which stock pool serves each channel: your warehouse, a 3PL, Amazon FBA, Walmart WFS.
- Check how fast marketplace orders reach Shopify and reduce stock; set buffers on fast sellers.
- Reconcile weekly. On Walmart, cancellations are scored with a standard of 2% or below (Walmart Marketplace Learn, updated Jul 28, 2026), so oversells can become an account problem.
Walmart lists eight performance standards in all, and three of them depend directly on how well your Shopify operations run: cancellation rate 2% or below, on-time delivery 90% or above and valid tracking 99% or above (Walmart Marketplace Learn, updated Jul 28, 2026). Before you apply to a marketplace, measure those three on your own Shopify orders for a month. If you cannot meet them on one channel, a second channel will make them worse.
AI channels are a channel, not magic
Agentic Storefronts are active by default for eligible stores. Shopify's Help Center describes ChatGPT as discovery-focused: customers complete their purchase on your online store checkout in a ChatGPT in-app browser. For Google, Copilot and Meta, customers buy inside the AI channel only if you have direct checkout activated. Orders show channel or referrer attribution in your admin. You remain the merchant of record (Shopify News and Help Center, read Oct 20, 2026). Decide which channels you want, then improve product data and watch the orders.
Key takeaways
- Add one channel at a time, after Shopify operations are steady.
- One stock count matters more than the listing tool you choose.
- AI channels read your product data; quality decides visibility.
Do this now
- List every SKU and bundle with its stock pool.
- Set channel prices that keep margin after each channel's fees.
- Open the Agentic page under Sales channels and choose your AI channels.
- Track cancellations by channel weekly.

Can I sell on Amazon from Shopify?
Yes, through Marketplace Connect or another listing tool. You still need an Amazon seller account and must follow Amazon's rules and fees, which differ from Shopify's. Run your margin with Amazon's fees for your category before listing, and decide whether you will fulfill from your own stock, a 3PL or FBA.
What does Marketplace Connect cost?
Free to install; the first 50 synced orders a month are free, then 1% per additional synced order, capped at $99 a month (apps.shopify.com, read Oct 20, 2026). That is Shopify's charge only. Each marketplace still charges its own selling fees on every order.
Are my products in ChatGPT automatically?
For eligible stores, yes, by default through Agentic Storefronts (Shopify Help Center, read Oct 20, 2026). You choose which AI channels stay on from the Agentic page under Sales channels. Shopify does not list the eligibility rules on that page, so check the page in your own admin.
Does ChatGPT take a fee on my sales?
Shopify said there are no transaction fees beyond standard processing rates for ChatGPT sales through Agentic Storefronts (Shopify News, Mar 24, 2026). Your normal payment processing rates still apply, and the customer completes the purchase on your own store checkout inside a ChatGPT in-app browser.
How do I avoid overselling across Shopify, Amazon and Walmart?
One stock count, correct mapping, buffers on fast sellers and weekly reconciliation. Check how quickly a marketplace order reduces stock in Shopify; if it takes longer than your fastest sellers take to sell out, hold back a few units per channel until the sync is faster.
Should I start on marketplaces or Shopify?
It depends on your product and budget. Many brands use Shopify as the brand home and add marketplaces once operations hold; others start on a marketplace for its existing shoppers. The free Launch Readiness Check compares channels for your product in a written plan within 3 business days.
