AI automation learning modules: eight lessons in order
Eight short AI automation learning modules, read in order, take you from "what can AI actually do?" to a store where repeat work runs on written rules and people approve what matters.
Quick answer
These AI automation learning modules teach the method in eight steps: what AI can and cannot do, mapping your workflows, one source of truth for your data, rules before AI, AI-assisted listings and support, orchestration across channels, guardrails and catalog readiness for AI shoppers. Each takes 5 to 10 minutes and ends with a do-this-now checklist.
Most new stores take months to find steady sales, and some never do. Inventory, platform fees, freight and ad spend are paid by you. Automation saves time on repeat work. It does not create demand for a product.
How do the AI automation learning modules fit together?
They follow the three layers that make automation work in a store: one source of truth at the bottom, AI and rules doing the repeat work on top of it, and people setting limits and approving what matters. Modules 01 and 02 prepare the ground, 03 builds the bottom layer, 04 to 06 build the middle and 07 sets the top. Module 08 turns outward, to the AI assistants your customers now use.
The order matters. Automation projects that disappoint often start with a tool and skip the first three steps. The modules are written so that each one depends on the one before it.
The eight modules
- 01What AI can and cannot do in ecommerce.
The three kinds of automation (rules, AI-assisted and agentic), what each does well, how each fails and the decisions that always stay with a person. You finish with a short list of tasks and your refund limit and price floor written down.
- 02Map your ecommerce workflows.
List every repeat task for one normal week, size it in hours and score it on five questions. The highest scorers are usually rules rather than AI. The map often shows that the founder is the hidden system behind a dozen tasks.
- 03A single source of truth for ecommerce data.
Decide which system owns stock, product details, orders, costs and policies. Learn the put-away rule for stock and how to check where your data disagrees today, before any automation reads it.
- 04Rules-based automation first.
Ten example rules for Amazon, Walmart and Shopify stores, each built from a trigger, conditions and an action, and how to test a rule with tags before it does anything that moves money.
- 05AI for product listings and support replies.
Draft listings from your own product facts and support replies from live order data and written policy, with a person checking claims and sending replies until the drafts earn trust.
- 06Order orchestration across channels.
Make Amazon, Walmart, Shopify, your 3PL and your helpdesk work from the same facts, with five designed hand-offs and one exceptions queue that a named person clears every day.
- 07AI guardrails for ecommerce.
The actions AI never takes alone, the five guardrails under every workflow and how to choose whether a person is in the loop, on the loop or reviewing by sample.
- 08Optimize products for AI shopping assistants.
What Alexa for Shopping, Sparky, ChatGPT and Google AI Mode read, a readiness checklist for every channel and how to find the gaps with each platform's own tools.
Which module should you start with?
Start at Module 01 if you are new to automation. If you already run some workflows, use this table to jump to the lesson that matches your problem, then go back and read the ones before it.
| If this sounds like you | Start with |
|---|---|
| "Everyone says we should use AI, but I do not know where." | Module 01 |
| "I do every task myself and cannot see what to hand off." | Module 02 |
| "Our stock numbers never match between channels." | Module 03 |
| "We want quick wins without risking anything." | Module 04 |
| "Our listings and support replies take too long to write." | Module 05 |
| "We sell on three channels and a 3PL, and it is chaos." | Module 06 |
| "An automation did something we never approved." | Module 07 |
| "AI shopping assistants never mention our products." | Module 08 |
How should you work through the modules?
We suggest one module a week. Read the lesson, do the checklist at the end and measure the task you changed before you move on. The checklists are small on purpose: each one should fit into a normal working week alongside everything else a store needs.
Keep one shared sheet as you go. By the end of Module 07 it holds your workflow map, your system-of-record table, your rules with their owners and your written limits. That sheet is the foundation for any tool you add later, and for any provider you might hire.
The longer guides go deeper on each stage: Start for your first five automations, Scale for orchestration across channels and Beyond $1M for governance. Short videos for each module are on the AI automation videos page.

Are the AI automation learning modules free?
Yes. Every module is free to read, with no sign-up wall and no certificate. The Learning Center is a free guide, not a course or coaching program. If you want to talk your situation through, you can book a free 30-minute session with an ops lead.
How long do the modules take?
Each takes about 5 to 10 minutes to read. The checklists take longer, from an afternoon to a week of light logging, because they ask you to work on your own store. At one module a week, the eight take about two months.
Do I need technical skills?
No for most of it. Modules 01 to 04 need a spreadsheet and the tools you already use, such as Shopify Flow, which is free on the Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus plans (Shopify Help Center, read Oct 20, 2026). Modules 05 and 06 may need help connecting a helpdesk, a 3PL or several marketplaces.
Can I skip to the module I need?
Yes, use the table above. But read Modules 02 and 03 before you automate anything that touches stock or customers, because most failed automations trace back to an unmapped task or data that disagrees between systems. Ten minutes on each is enough to see whether your store already passes.
Do the modules cover Amazon, Walmart and Shopify?
Yes. Each lesson uses examples from all three, and points to each platform's own tools. For channel-specific detail, see the Shopify guide, the Amazon guide and the Walmart guide. Where a platform's rules differ, the lesson says so. Platform facts in each lesson carry the date we checked them.
What if I want it built instead of doing it myself?
That is a reasonable choice when you sell on several channels and nobody has time to maintain workflows. Our Relay Modules are fixed-scope builds in your own accounts, from $750 for a standard build. Whatever you decide, the method in these modules is how to judge any provider's work.
