What is Walmart's reasonable price rule?

Walmart's reasonable price rule, which Walmart calls the Pricing Rule, automatically unpublishes an offer whose price is far above prices currently or recently offered for the same item on Walmart.com or competing websites, or that could be seen as price gouging (Walmart Marketplace Learn, updated Dec 12, 2025). Walmart looks at the listing price and the shipping fee together. Unpublished offers show the reason code "Reasonable Price Not Satisfied".

The three Walmart pricing rules

Walmart runs three related rules. Each has a different effect on the listing.

RuleWhat triggers itWhat happens
Pricing RulePrice well above current or recent prices for the same item on Walmart.com or competing sites, or at a level that could be seen as price gougingOffer unpublished; reason code "Reasonable Price Not Satisfied"
Egregious Shipping CostExtremely high shipping fees on the offerOffer unpublished or made ineligible for the Buy Box
Buy Box IneligibilityPrice substantially higher than current or recent pricesAdd to Cart and offer details removed from the item page; shoppers can still buy through More Seller Options; "No" in the Buy Box eligible column of the Item Report

How Walmart's reasonable price rule check works

  • Price Walmart checks

= item price + shipping fee charged to the buyer

  • Compared against

= prices currently or recently offered for the same item on Walmart.com and competing websites

Walmart does not publish the thresholds. Riverbend Consulting reports that the Unpublished Items dashboard shows the reference price Walmart is working from, and that offers usually republish within 48 hours once the price is back in range (vendor, updated Aug 4, 2026).

Worked example

Illustrative · sample figures. You sell a blender at $49.99 with $12.99 shipping. The same model sells elsewhere for about $45 with free shipping.

OfferItem priceShippingTotal Walmart checks
Yours, before$49.99$12.99$62.98
Market reference$45.00$0$45.00
Yours, after the fix$49.99$0$49.99

The item price was fine. The shipping fee pushed the total 40% above the reference, and the offer was unpublished. Moving shipping into a free-shipping template fixed it without cutting the item price. There is a second gain: Walmart charges its referral fee on the total sales price including shipping (Walmart, updated Mar 9, 2026), so the higher total also cost more in fees.

How it compares with Amazon and Shopify

Amazon.

Amazon has its own fair pricing policy in Seller Central, and offers priced well above recent prices can lose the Featured Offer. The habit is the same: watch total price against the market, not just your own history.

Shopify.

Your own store has no pricing rule. Price freely, but Shopify prices that sit far below your Walmart price are one of the references a marketplace can see on competing websites, which can make your Walmart offer look high.

Walmart "price parity".

Walmart's published rule is not a strict parity requirement. It compares your total with current and recent prices for the same item on Walmart and on competing sites. In practice, a much lower price elsewhere, including on your own site, can still trigger it.

Common mistakes

  • Fixing the item price and leaving shipping.

    The check uses the total.

  • Repricers without a ceiling.

A repricer that chases price up when competitors sell out can push you over the line. Set floors and ceilings.

  • Raising prices sharply in one step.

A sudden jump against your own recent history can trigger the rule.

  • Not checking the unpublished report daily.

A hidden best seller loses sales every hour until someone notices.

  • Ignoring Buy Box ineligibility.

The listing is still live, so it is easy to miss that Add to Cart has gone.

What does "Reasonable Price Not Satisfied" mean on Walmart?

It is the reason code Walmart shows when its Pricing Rule has unpublished an offer because the price, including shipping, is far above current or recent prices for the same item on Walmart.com or competing sites. Check the reference price in the Unpublished Items dashboard, correct the total and wait for the offer to republish.

Does Walmart have a price parity rule?

Not a strict one. Walmart's published Pricing Rule compares your offer with prices currently or recently offered for the same item on Walmart and on competing websites. A much lower price on another site can still make your Walmart offer look unreasonable, so keep totals in line across channels.

Does shipping count in Walmart's price check?

Yes. Walmart reviews the offer's listing price and shipping fee together, and a separate Egregious Shipping Cost rule can unpublish offers with extremely high shipping fees. Shipping also counts toward the referral fee, which is charged on the total sales price.

How long does it take to republish?

Walmart's page lists the question but does not state a time. Riverbend Consulting reports that offers usually republish within 48 hours once the price is back in range, and suggests opening a Partner Support case if one does not (vendor, Aug 4, 2026).

Can repeated pricing flags hurt my account?

They can. Walmart says that failing to follow its pricing rules or other Marketplace policies may result in account suspension or termination. Treat repeated flags as an account health issue, not just a listing issue, alongside the seller performance standards.

Can you watch our pricing on Walmart?

Yes. Our Walmart listing optimization service checks unpublished items daily and sets repricer limits, and our Walmart Marketplace management covers the account as a whole. See pricing.
