What is Amazon DD+7, and how does the payout delay affect your cash?

Amazon DD+7 means the money from an order is held until 7 days after the order is delivered, then released to your available balance. Amazon's name for it is the Delivery Date Based Reserve. It reached North American sellers on Mar 12, 2026, according to Amazon's notice as quoted by sellers and reported by EcomCrew (May 24, 2026). The payout delay adds days to your cash cycle on every Amazon sale.

How the Amazon payout delay is calculated

  • Days from order to available funds

    = days to delivery + 7

  • Days from order to cash in the bank

= days to delivery + 7 + days until your next disbursement + bank transfer days

  • Cash held in your Amazon balance

≈ average daily net proceeds × days from order to available funds

Net proceeds means sales after Amazon's fees. Delivery date is the confirmed delivery, so slow carriers and late scans move your cash too.

Worked example

Illustrative · sample figures. A brand sells $100,000 a month on Amazon, about $3,300 a day after fees. Orders take about 4 days to deliver.

StepDays or amount
Order to delivery4 days
Delivery to available balance7 days
Order to available funds11 days
Cash sitting in the Amazon balance at any time$3,300 × 11, about $36,300
In a month when sales double, such as late Novemberabout $72,600

The second figure is the one that catches owners out. Peak season raises sales, and with them the cash Amazon holds, exactly when you are paying for the next round of stock. Plan the buffer before October, not during it.

The cash conversion cycle calculator adds this to inventory days and supplier terms to show the cash your whole cycle ties up.

How payout timing works on Amazon, Walmart and Shopify

Amazon.

Funds move from deferred to available 7 calendar days after confirmed delivery (EcomCrew, May 24, 2026). Amazon has not published a public page on DD+7 that we could find on Oct 20, 2026, so read the exact terms in your Payments dashboard. EcomCrew also reports one seller's hold set at DD+24 with no clear trigger, so check the reserve line in each statement.

Walmart.

New US sellers can have payments held for up to 14 days, a hold that ends only once 90 days have passed since the first order shipped or was delivered and $7,500 has been paid out (Walmart, updated Sep 24, 2026). After that, use the payout schedule shown in Seller Center.

Shopify.

With Shopify Payments you choose daily, weekly or monthly payouts. In the US, a payment settles at least three business days before it is paid out, and banks can take another 1 to 3 days (Shopify Help Center).

Common mistakes

  • Using an old benchmark.

Some lender guides still describe Amazon's payout as a rolling 14-day cycle (Wayflyer, 2024). Use your own statements.

  • Planning reorders on sales, not cash.

A record month on Amazon can leave less cash on hand for a few weeks, not more.

  • Ignoring delivery speed.

Slower shipping on seller-fulfilled orders now delays cash as well as hurting metrics.

  • Averaging channels.

Model Amazon, Walmart and Shopify payout timing separately, weighted by sales.

  • Forgetting refunds.

Returns inside the hold reduce what is released.

When did DD+7 start?

Mar 12, 2026 for North American sellers, according to Amazon's notice as quoted by sellers and reported by EcomCrew on May 24, 2026. We could not find a public Amazon page describing it, so confirm the terms that apply to your account in the Payments dashboard in Seller Central.

Why does Amazon hold funds after delivery?

The reported reason is to give customers time to inspect orders and request refunds before the seller is paid. Whatever the reason, the effect is the same: about a week more of your sales sits in Amazon's balance before you can use it.

How much cash does DD+7 tie up?

Roughly your average daily net proceeds times the days from order to available funds. At $3,300 a day and 11 days, about $36,300, and about twice that in a month when sales double. The real figure is in the deferred and reserve lines of your settlement reports.

Does DD+7 apply to FBA and seller-fulfilled orders?

It is based on confirmed delivery, so it applies to both. On seller-fulfilled orders, valid tracking and fast delivery scans matter more than before, because the release date depends on them.

How should I plan reorders around it?

Add the extra days to the collection side of your cash cycle, then size purchase orders against cash you will actually have on the payment date. Build a buffer before Q4. The reorder point calculator handles the stock side and the cash conversion cycle calculator handles the cash side.
